Pearl 5 Install Fails (PearlMATE 5.0)

by crisis-dujur, Thursday, July 13, 2017, 13:37 (35 days ago)

I am trying to install Pearl 5 Mate 64 bit on my laptop. The installer
keeps failing at the point of setting up grub2 (that's what the status
line says). It does so consistently (3 times). The error message says
something about an app to send in a bug report but it never opened and I
couldn't find it. I have a toshiba S55-A5339, 12 GB mem, 1 TB HDD, i7

I use EFI booting and have Win 10 and Linux Mint as OSes. The first Pearl install formatted my Ubuntu Gnome. I use rEFInd
as a boot manager. Any ideas how to fix this? Is there a way to by-pass
the grub2 set-up. I wouldn't mind doing it manually at a later time.

I should also mention that the live version works just great.

Pearl 5 Install Fails

I ended up getting the install to finish by executing ubiquity from the command line with the '--no-bootloader' option. My rEFInd boot manager found the partition and booted it just fine. However, what I ended up with was a brain damaged desk top. I can't move windows, no desktop background, can't even log out (no some such service error) to name a few of the problems. Very disappointing after being teased by the lovely live-usb.
